It is with heavy hearts that we announce “Ron” Nelson, age 87, of Mogadore, OH and Tionesta, PA, has left us for the great hunting grounds of heaven. Ron passed away peacefully at his home in Mogadore on Tuesday, August 20, 2024. He was born April 7, 1937 in Mercer, PA, son of the late Ronald Nelson and Geraldine (Blackson) Zahniser.
Ron loved Tionesta and the great outdoors. He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family on the “Farm” on German Hill. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and that is how he will always be remembered, as we know he is sitting in the forest of heaven waiting for that next big buck!
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Loyal Order of the Moose but spent many years as a member of APCO Fish and Wildlife Conservation Club of Ravenna, Ohio. He worked for Reznor Heating of Mercer Pennsylvania, was once a Police Officer for Hempfield Township, Pennsylvania and held various building maintenance and management positions in Ohio.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 43 years, Mary Ann (Burhen) Nelson and adoring daughter, Joanne Nelson.
Surviving are his wonderful sons, Richard L. Nelson and his wife Jenny of Akron, Ohio; Michael E. Nelson and his wife Robin of Mogadore, Ohio and Stepson Harold Swartz of Grove City Pennsylvania. Five beautiful grandchildren, Manuel, Michele, Mindy, Megan, and Amanda Nelson. He was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Claira and Jaxson. Ron never met a stranger and is also survived by several cousins and friends.
Special thanks are extended to the Summa Hospice team for their professional and compassionate care that Ron received during his last months.
A private burial will be alongside his wife Mary Ann at Starr Cemetery in Tionesta. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home.
