Robert D. “Whitey” Spangler, age 90, of Tionesta, PA, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, died on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at his home in Tionesta. He was born June 30, 1934, in Somerset, PA, son of the late Robert and Louise (Durst) Spangler.
On March 24, 1956, in Cumberland, Maryland, he married Charlotte F. (Fodder) Spangler, who survives. He was a member of the Tionesta Alliance Church, where he previously served as a board member. At the church, Whitey was in charge of maintenance and could be seen mowing the church grounds on a routine basis. He retired in 1984 from the Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio at the age of 50 where he worked as a millwright. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was helpful to everyone who needed something done.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, David D. Spangler from Cleveland, Ohio. A daughter, Adrienne C. Cox, at home. Six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. A sister survives, Alice “Tootie” Kaszynski and her husband Edward of Meadville, PA, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Lynn Chapman. Three brothers and two sisters are also deceased.
There will be no public visitation. All services held will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta. Memorial contributions may be made to Charlotte Spangler, 1627 Nason Drive, Tionesta, PA 16353.
