It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nancy Ann Wallace, a cherished member of the Tionesta community. Nancy passed away with her husband by her side on June 17, 2024, at the age of 87.
Nancy was born on October 2, 1936 in Beaver Falls, PA to William and Dorothy Hovelman (Laney). She had two sisters, Frances Young and Paula Wharton, who survive. She graduated from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and later earned a Bachelor of Science in School Nursing from Clarion College.
On June 21, 1958, Nancy married her high school sweetheart, William Wallace. They built a beautiful life together over the last 66 years. Nancy and Bill were blessed with three children: Pat (Josh) Merkovsky, Sue Wallace Heasley, and the late John Wallace. In addition to her children, Nancy was especially proud of her eight grandchildren: Elese (Mike) Merkovsky, Andi (Adam) Heasley, Grace (Patrick) Wallace, John Merkovsky, Jill Wallace, Matt Merkovsky, Kate Heasley, and Luke Merkovsky. Nancy is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Time spent with family was one of the greatest joys of Nancy’s life.
Nancy dedicated over 20 years as the school nurse at West Forest. She was known for her kindness, empathy, and ability to lend a listening ear. Nancy was an active member of her community, supporting various charitable organizations. She was recognized for her significant contributions to the community as a member of St Anthony’s Church, blood drive coordinator, hospice volunteer at VNA, and Red Cross Disaster representative. She was a breast cancer survivor for over 30 years and became a trusted resource and avid support system for other survivors in the community.
Her generosity, compassion, and selflessness touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Nancy was blessed with a long healthy retirement with her husband and the opportunity to travel to beautiful destinations around the world. Some of her most treasured moments were spent with her family on Tionesta Lake and their annual trip to the Outer Banks.
The family will be receiving visitors on Friday, June 21 from 4-7pm at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta. A memorial mass will be held at 12pm on Saturday, June 22 at St. Anthony’s Church in Tionesta with longtime family friend, Fr. Brian Vossler, officiating. A luncheon and time of fellowship will immediately follow the mass at the church. The family requests that any donations be made in Nancy's memory to the Clarion Forest VNA Hospice, 271 Perkins Road, Clarion, PA 16214.
