Lois Mae Whiteman Wike, age 97, of Endeavor, PA, died on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Brevillier Village in Harborcreek, PA. She was born November 6, 1920 in Pittsfield, PA, Warren County, the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Agnes M. Rudolph Whiteman.
She went to Stilson Hill grade school in Sugar Grove Township, Warren County, high school in Kellettville and Tionesta, and graduated from the Scranton Woman’s Institute of Domestic Arts and Sciences in June of 1940. On May 16, 1952, she was married to the late Carl S. Wike, who passed away July 19, 2002. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 16, 2002.
She was a member of the East Hickory Methodist Church, a Seventh Degree member of Forest Grange #853, was Secretary and Treasurer of the Starr Cemetery Association for a number of years, a Cub Scout Den Mother for 4 years, member of the Endeavor American Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary since 1973, member of the Tionesta Library and Historical Society. She did surveys and wrote books about 12 cemeteries in Forest County, History of the Forest Grange, and was a clerk at the Kellettville and East Hickory Post Offices. She also wrote a popular column in the Forest Press, Route 666, for a number of years.
Lois’ hobbies were quilt making, stamp collecting, genealogy, and gardening.
She is survived by her son, Gregg Wike and his wife Vivian of Wesleyville, PA. Two grandsons, Ivan Wike and his wife Hayley of Goldsboro, NC and Daniel Wike and his wife Lindsay of Erie, PA. A great grandson, Ayan. Great granddaughters Evanthia and Alexandria. Step great grandson Noah Stearns. Step great granddaughters Rika Uchihara and Johanna Stearns. Step great great granddaughters Liann and Himawari Uchihara. Her sister, Jean Lauger of Pittsfield. Several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, David Wike. Her granddaughter-in-law, Masumi Wike. Her brother, Donald Whiteman. And her sisters, Cecile VanCise, Edna Newark, Edith Yucha, and Donnabell Swanson.
Friends will be received at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta on Friday, March 2, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 10A.M. to 11 A.M., at which time services will be held with Rev. Samuel J. Wagner, Associate Pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin, PA, officiating. Burial will be beside her husband in Starr Cemetery in Tionesta.
