John S. Ziegler, age 88, of Tionesta, PA, died Sunday morning, May 1, 2022 at his home in Tionesta. He was born April 29, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late William A. and Nellie H. (Savickas) Ziegler.
John served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era for 20 years attaining the rank of Illustrator Draftsman First Class, and served aboard the USS Brownson, a destroyer, then later aboard the USS Pocono, an amphibious force command ship. In March of 1957, in Virginia Beach, VA, he married Mildred T. “Millie” (Drawdy) Ziegler, who survives. John worked as a store manager for Farm Fresh Supermarkets in Virginia Beach for 20 years, retiring on April 25, 1986. He enjoyed bowling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons: John Ziegler, Jr. of Tionesta; Jimmy Ziegler and his wife Donna of Virginia Beach; Robert Ziegler and his husband June Lopez of Manhattan, NY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William C. Ziegler on June 2, 2009, and by his sister, Marcella M. Focht.
A gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 15, 2022 at noon at the Ziegler home, 57 Ziegler Lane, Tionesta, PA 16353. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Tionesta. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta.
