John F. Ganster Jr., age 70, of Washington, PA, died suddenly in Sheffield, Pa, at the place he loved to be, his camp. He was born January 1, 1953 in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late John F. and Alberta (Wetzel) Ganster Sr. On July 23, 2011 he married Sally M. (McConnell) Ganster in Washington, PA. Sally survives.
John retired from Consol Coal working as a Coal Miner Mechanic at the Baily Mine in Crabapple, PA, near West Finley, PA. He had a passion for vintage automobiles. He restored a 57 Chevy and was working on a 56 Ford Truck. John owned several of these kinds of vehicles over the years. His second passion was his camp in the northern portion of Forest County. He loved his camp in the woods next to Tionesta Creek, loved the area, and every minute he spent there.
His most significant passion was the love he had for his wife Sally, his brother and sisters, and his children… and spending time with all of them. He will be greatly missed by his family.
Surviving in addition to his wife are four sons, Eric Ganster and his wife Amber of Claysville, PA; Joseph Ganster of Santa Clara, California; Travis Ellwood and his wife Samantha of Pittsburgh; Jared Ellwood of Washington, PA and his fiancé Danielle Pritts. One daughter, Keri Ganster also of Washington, PA and her fiancé Chad Wilson.
The following eight grandchildren survive: Maddix, Aydin, Jason, Julian, Stuart, Alivia, Parker, and Conner. There are three step-grandchildren, Mackenzie, Devon and Alexa.
One Brother, James R. Ganster and his wife Ivy of Irwin, PA. Two sisters, Patricia Ganster of Panama; Barbara Ganster of Frederick, Maryland. Several nieces and nephews.
All services held will be private. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta, PA.
