JoAnne F. Vargason

JoAnne F. Vargason, age 81, of West Hickory, PA, passed away on Tuesday morning, December 13, 2016 at UPMC Northwest Hospital in Seneca, PA.  She was born on October 12, 1935 in Ludlow, PA, daughter of the late Wayne “Shorty” and Rachel (Moore) Nichols.

She married her husband of 21 years, Samuel A. Vargason on October 29, 1989 at West Hickory United Methodist Church in West Hickory.  He preceded her in death on June 4, 2011.  JoAnne loved being around family and friends and enjoyed playing bingo. 

JoAnne is survived by her son, Wayne E. Shawley and his wife Rhonda of Oil City, PA; her daughter, Kim S. Hill and her husband Todd of Peyton, CO, and three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and two nieces: Carla Wallin and her husband Perry of West Hickory and Cathy Beach and her husband Burke, also of West Hickory.  She is also survived by two stepsons, Keith O. Vargason and his wife Jane of Erie, PA, and S. Craig Vargason and his wife Yolanda, of Pleasantville, PA, as well as five stepdaughters, Faith E. Sager, Rhonda S. Harman and her husband Roger, Tammy L. Hunter, and Nora J. Galina and her husband Benjamin, all of Tionesta, PA and Lora J. “Minnie” Wadlow and her husband Richard of Oil City, and several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Samuel, she was preceded in death by her sister, Naomi Hunter on April 30, 2002, and her step grandson, Kevin M. Vargason, on November 18, 2016.

Friends are welcome to attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 3 P.M. at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta, with Benjamin Galina officiating.  Interment will be in Mt. Collins Cemetery, Tionesta.
