Donna L. (Brewer) Shaffer

    Donna L. (Brewer) Shaffer, age 89, of Tionesta, PA, died on Monday, July 28, 2025, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca, PA.  She was born November 5, 1935, in Punxsutawney, PA, daughter of the late Royd H. and Ruth A. (Boucher) Brewer.

     On December 17, 1955, in Punxsutawney, she married Ronald E. “Ron” Shaffer.  He preceded her in death on January 21, 2022.  She worked for Ray Karl of Karl Drilling and his building company for many years as a bookkeeper.  Donna was a devoted Christian and was a former member of the Oakland Church of God in Distant, PA, and locally a member of the Tionesta Church of God.  She taught various children’s Sunday School classes at both churches.  She was also very active in preparing church dinners for all occasions.  She was a loving wife and a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was an excellent role model for her entire family, as well as for others.  Donna and Ron were frequently seen at many high school sporting events.  She enjoyed golf and spending time with her friends playing dominoes and cards.  Additionally, she enjoyed putting together puzzles, diamond painting, cooking, and baking.  Her closest companion was the family dog, Cole, who traveled with her on many car rides, at least twice per day, who also had cheese time three times per day.  Cole was an excellent companion of Donna’s after Ron’s passing.

     Donna is survived by her son, Doug Shaffer and his wife Marie of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  Three grandchildren: Kenny Shaffer of North Myrtle Beach; Julie Woodson and her husband Russell “Woody” of Little River, South Carolina; and Nikki Shaffer of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.  Two great-granddaughters, Kaylee and McKenzie Woodson, also of Little River.  A sister-in-law, Mary Brewer of Plumville, PA.  Several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her parents and husband, Donna was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Brewer, on November 5, 2012.

     Friends will be received on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 10 A.M. to noon at the Tionesta Church of God, 1582 Route 36, Tionesta, PA 16353.  A celebration of Donna’s life will follow the visitation at noon with close friend Pastor Earl E. Flick of the Dayton Church of God, Dayton, PA, officiating, after which a funeral luncheon will be served and all are invited.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta.  In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials in Donna’s honor to be directed to the Tionesta Church of God Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 247, Tionesta, PA 16353.
