Charles Michalegko

July 4, 1923 ~ March 3, 2016 (age 92) 92 Years Old


   Charles Michalegko, age 92, of Endeavor, PA, died on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at the Sunrise Senior Living in McCandless Twp, PA, near Pittsburgh, PA.  He was born July 4, 1923 in Betula/Keystone, McKean County, PA, son of the late Demetrius and Anastasia (Holowczak) Michalegko. 

   On July 26, 1952 at St. John’s R.C. Church in Tidioute, PA he married Isabel A. “Tene” (Scott) Michalegko who survives.

   Charlie served his country in the US Army Air Corps during WW II in the Aleutian Islands and was a member of the American Legion Post of Tidioute, PA.  He retired from Penn-Dot where he was a maintenance supervisor at the Tionesta facility.  Prior to Penn-Dot, he owned a Texaco Service Station in East Hickory, PA.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and had a love of gardening. 

   Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Rev. Kathy M. Salerno and her husband Tom of Imperial, PA.  Three grandchildren and their spouses, Dr. Mitchell Salerno (Alexis); Kimberly Thomas (Jermaine); Scott Salerno (Lauren).  Seven great-grandchildren, Brayden, Channing, Lorenzo, Kate, Emma, Elijah and Isabelle.  Two brothers, Paul Michalegko of Erie, PA, and Nicholas Michalegko and his wife Judy of Arizona.  Several nieces and nephews.   

   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Pete.  Two sisters, Ann and Maria. 

  There will be no public visitation.  A public Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Anthony's Church, 112 Bridge Street, Tionesta, PA 16353 with Fr. Joseph J. Kalinowski, celebrant.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Tionesta.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society 21823 SR 68 Clarion, Pennsylvania 16214.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta.
