Arlyn F. “Gov” Hoovler

Arlyn F. “Gov” Hoovler, age 96, of Pleasantville, PA, passed away on Friday morning, December 2, 2016, at his residence in Pleasantville.  He was born on October 1, 1920 in Tionesta, PA, son of the late Clarence N. and Louella (Handy) Hoovler.

Arlyn married his wife of 44 years, Lois Jean (Skudrin) Hoovler, in Cleveland, OH on July 9, 1953.  She preceded him in death on January 7, 1997.  He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in all three campaigns: European, Pacific, and Home.  He later served in the U.S. Coast Guard for over 20, retiring as a Senior Chief Engineman in 1966.  Arlyn served as a Harmony Township Supervisor for 23 years and was the Parade Marshal for the Tionesta Memorial Day Parade from 1967-1997.  He was a member of Olive Temple Lodge #557 F.&A.M., of Tionesta, the Valley of Coudersport Consistory, and AMVETS Post #113, also of Tionesta.

He is survived by two sons, Nelson J. “Bud” Hoovler and his wife Cindy of Pleasantville, Arlyn F. “Chip” Hoovler and his wife Cindy of Pleasantville; a daughter, Mary Beth Duncan and her husband Kyle of Live Oak, FL.  A sister, Dana Larimar, of Sigel, PA, also survives, as well as eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  The family wishes to extend special thanks to Ginny Coe, caregiver, for her care and compassion to Arlyn.

In addition to his parents and wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Arletta Campbell and Arline Kellet. 

Friends will be received at the Norman J. Wimer Funeral of Tionesta on Monday, December 5, 2016, from 10 until 11 A.M., at which time services will be conducted by Rev. Randy Evans, chaplain of Clarion Forest VNA Hospice, officiating.  Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Tionesta with full military rites accorded, presented by Titusville VFW Post #5958.
