JoAnn (Bauman) Scherm, age 79, of Tionesta, PA, formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died on Saturday, July 6, 2019 at her home in Tionesta. She was born April 8, 1940 in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Clarence Michael and Margaret Lucy (Krist) Bauman.
JoAnn graduated from St. Peter’s High School in Pittsburgh. On November 27, 1960 in Pittsburgh she married Anthony T. “Tony” “Ted” Scherm, who survives. JoAnn previously worked as a secretary at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, a cafeteria aide at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Pittsburgh, and as a crossing guard for the City of Pittsburgh until she retired. She was a member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church in Tionesta. JoAnn and her husband moved to Tionesta in 2010.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her son, Anthony D. “Dwayne” Scherm and his wife Sara of Tionesta. Four grandchildren: Connor Scherm of Tionesta; Jack Krivanek of Washington, PA; William Pryle of Tionesta; and John Pryle and his wife Mariah of Pittsburgh. One great grandson, Da’Shwan Smith of Pittsburgh.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Walter Pergzola.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 9, 2019, 10 AM, at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church, 112 Bridge Street, Tionesta, PA 16353 with Fr. Joseph Kalinowski officiating. Burial will follow in Starr Cemetery, Tionesta. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
