I am truly saddened to learn that Ed is no longer with us, and I am touched by the testimonials written here by a younger generation who grew as human beings for having known him. Ed was an intelligent man of very good humor. He visited Tionesta Library regularly where I helped him find information on a variety of subjects that tended to add to his considerable knowledge of the natural world. Many of his requests involved Internet searches, and in his seventies, Ed mastered Internet searching on his own. His curiosity knew no bounds, nor did his generosity in sharing with others what he learned--as many have mentioned here. Each spring he delivered a small sack of wild leeks so I could cook up a batch of Cock a Leekie Soup, recipe provided. They smelled so bad I had to put them outside until I finished my workday. I have many of Ed’s favorite recipes, and I have a couple of his books that I had not yet returned. They were Ed’s effort to help heal my body damaged by Celiac disease: The Complete Book of Chinese Health & Healing and Chinese Herbal Medicine. He highlighted and underlined entries he felt important, so I feel privileged to now take permanent possession of these books, a lasting memento of a personality I will never forget.

Ed was my Scoutmaster when I was a kid, I became his paid assistant on the farm, helping with the usual farming and gardening chores, I helped him build the greenhouse on the side of the barn, all the while learning things of life and nature through his seemingly never ending store of knowledge that flowed so easily from his brain and out of his mouth. Some of us think we know a little of everything, Ed, on the other hand knew a lot about everything. The days of hiking, camping, canoeing, bird watching, and going to the "Yough" rafting are some of my fondest memories. He and his wife Norma presented me with a bird identification book in 1976 that I still cherish. I learned nearly as much from this man through my years as I did from my Dad. Fly free "Mr. Ed" you will be missed and remembered by many. <3

Mr Ed, you will never be forgotten. I think of you often and all you did for the youth of Hickory area during my childhood. Afsabps kids will never forget the fun times you and others gave us, taught us how to foot slog and back paddle. Took us places and showed us things we only dreamed of, you may be gone from the earth now but will remain in our hearts and thoughts for all of our days. The garlic frolics were awesome, we were lucky to have you as long as we did. Rest in peace!

Mr. Ed! I'm SOOOOOOO going to miss you! No more intellectual, ridiculous conversations... no more garlic and dill pizzas... no more aroma-filled hugs. Loved you dearly, from so many years back, when you had the peacocks and I ate my first piece of blueberry pie at your house and I ate fresh peas from your garden. I still remember the taste of them. It's the end of an era. Rest well, old friend.
