Catherine Z. Polumbo

Catherine Z. Polumbo, age 86, of Tionesta, PA, formerly of Hazleton, PA, died on Saturday afternoon, January 13, 2018 at Forestview Skilled Nursing Center in Erie, PA.  She was born in Hazleton on October 19, 1931, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Gullick) Zebelin. 

She graduated from Hazleton High School and married her husband of 66 years, Neil F. Polumbo Sr., who survives, on August 4, 1951, at the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Hazleton.  Catherine was a member of St. Anthony’s R.C. Church in Tionesta for many years.  She worked as a floral designer at the former Touch of Nature in Tionesta until retiring.  She enjoyed gardening, nature, and especially animals.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Neil F. Polumbo, Jr., of Marienville, PA.  Three daughters, Catherine Wright and her husband Bill of Valencia, PA, Dr. P.J. Polumbo of Waterford, PA, and Cecilia Polumbo of Erie, PA.  Her sister, Delores Dolinsky and her husband John of Hazleton.  Five grandchildren.  Three great grandchildren.  Several nieces and nephews.  Her very close friend, Brigitte Johnson of Tionesta.

In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her sister, Josephine Gallagher.

Friends will be received from 5-7 P.M. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 in the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at St. Anthony’s R.C. Church in Tionesta with Fr. Joseph Kalinowski celebrating the Mass. 

A Committal Service will be held at 1 P.M. on Friday, January 19, 2018 at Most Precious Blood Cemetery in Hazleton. 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Erie Zoo, 423 W. 38th Street, Erie, PA 16508, because of her love of nature and all God’s creatures.
